ZETA TAU SIGMA ALUMNAE CHAPTER
Who We Are
On Saturday March 26, 1983 at the Rayburn Senate Office Building in Washington, DC, twenty-five Sorors and five honorary members chartered Zeta Tau Sigma Alumnae Chapter. At the time, It was the largest chapter to ever be chartered in the Northeast Region. In keeping our sorority's mission statement, the Zeta Tau Sigma Chapter has participated in and continues to contribute to various community services throughout Prince George's County, MD. We are dedicated to reaching out to others and making a difference within out community.
Zeta Tau Sigma Alumnae Chapter advises the following undergraduate chapters: Epsilon Lambda Chapter (Bowie State University), Eta Beta Chapter (University of Maryland College Park), Mu Pi Chapter (Capitol College), and Omicron Epsilon Chapter (George Washington University). We are also affiliated with many organizations at the local and national levels including the National Council for Negro Women, Phyllis Wheatley YWCA, Africare, Prince George's County Black Women's Political Action Forum, and the National Pan Hellenic Council.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven school teachers: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. Downey Martin and Cubena McClure. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929,
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority's aim is to enhance the quality of life within the community. Public Service, leadership development and education of youth are the hallmark of the organization's programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically, and economically.
Committed to the tenets of excellence in Scholarship, Sisterhood and Service, Sigma Gamma Rho proudly serves the community by providing positive and proactive community leadership and support whenever possible. As indicated by the sorority's international slogan, " Greater Service, Greater Progress", Sigma Gamma Rho maintains the legacy initiated by our beloved Pearls.
